Still Waters Sport Horses is a small family-run farm located in  Te Puke, New Zealand, dedicated to breeding elite competitive horses. Our focus is on producing horses with exceptional bloodlines, carefully selected for their proven performance and genetic excellence. We prioritize temperament and trainability, ensuring our horses are not only physically capable but also possess the mindset necessary for success at the highest levels of competition. Through meticulous breeding and hands-on management, we aim to develop sport horses that excel in their discipline and build lasting partnerships with their riders.

We also understand that not everyone is looking for a big warmblood to take through the jumping heights. With that in mind, we have invested in exceptional pony lines and a select few Gypsy Cob lines—ensuring we offer something for a wide range of riders and goals. What we haven’t done is compromise on quality. Every horse we breed or bring into our program is selected for outstanding bloodlines, proven performance, and exceptional temperament. We are equally meticulous in pairing each mare with the right stallion, with decisions guided by rigorous evaluation of conformation to ensure structural correctness, athleticism, and long-term soundness.

Talk From The Stables

Sunday 1 March 2026

February has been another busy, but incredibly exciting, month for us at Still Waters Sport Horses.

The New Zealand Warmblood Association Tour visited, and we are absolutely thrilled with how our youngsters represented our program.

We finished the day with 3 foals awarded Merit and another 3 just fractions away from achieving Merit status, results we are completely over the moon with.

To have six foals performing at that level is something we’re extremely proud of. It’s a real testament to the quality of the mares we’ve carefully selected, the stallions we’ve chosen to complement them, and the consistent management and preparation that goes into raising each foal.

We’re always learning, always refining, and always aiming higher, but days like this make all the early mornings and long weeks so worthwhile.

And while I was busy planning on reducing mare numbers for next season… it seems we may very well end up with the same amount, all going well with our embryo transfers!

We have transferred two embryos from Acolade by ES Kalaska into recipient mares and will receive those results this week 🤞

As if that wasn’t exciting enough, while we wait, Acolade is currently growing three follicles, which will be inseminated with ES Exclusive Diamond and flushed the following week.

We are crossing absolutely everything that we get another one (or two… or three!!!) from that flush. If all goes to plan, we hope to have two recipient mares ready to implant embryos straight into. And if we are lucky enough to have more embryos than recipient mares available, we will happily freeze the remainder for future use. She is simply too special of a mare not to.

So our very calm and sensible intention of one Acolade foal next season has rather quickly turned into the possibility of multiple… and I can honestly say that’s a situation I will not be complaining about. When you have a mare like Acolade, you lean in.

With the departure of Jasmine from our team, we were incredibly lucky to welcome Jo on board to help with the farm jobs and allow us a little time away.

Jo stepped straight in and it felt like she had been here forever.

Shaun and I headed away for a few days, and everything just… ran. The horses were beautifully looked after, the stables and yards were immaculate, and every job had been done, without me even having to ask.

That level of initiative and care is something you can’t teach.

Jo has been such a welcomed addition to our team, and we’re so grateful to have her as part of Still Waters.

That’s all for now, but we’ll keep you updated with Acolade’s results over the coming days.

If all goes to plan, we’re hoping to have a few beautiful foals to offer in utero by different Euro Sport Horses stallions, a very exciting prospect for our program and for anyone wanting to secure something special early.

Fingers firmly crossed 🤍
