CDS Donnerflew

CDS Donnerflew is a beautifully bred warmblood mare who brings together some of the most influential dressage bloodlines of modern sporthorse breeding. Known for her soft expression, generous nature and naturally balanced movement, she has become a valued broodmare within our program, consistently producing foals with exceptional type, temperament and athletic potential.

She is by Donnerubin, a stallion carrying the celebrated Donnerhall × Rubinstein I cross — one of the most successful and reliable combinations in dressage breeding. Donnerhall needs little introduction, having shaped international dressage through his expressive movement, powerful mechanics and highly rideable character. On the dam side, Rubinstein I contributes the renowned Romadour II line, famous for producing kind, intelligent horses with excellent work ethics and elasticity. Together, this pedigree blends power with rideability, expression with correctness, and trainability with a genuinely people-oriented mindset — all traits clearly reflected in Donnerflew herself.

Her dam Flewelt MH, bred by Matthews Hanoverians, adds further depth through proven German lines known for correctness, elasticity and soundness. Flewelt MH has been recognised for producing athletic, well-minded offspring with strong toplines, expressive trot mechanics and the reliability that makes the MH mares so respected across New Zealand. Donnerflew inherits this structural strength and calm, steady temperament, making her a consistent and trustworthy producer of quality foals.

Donnerflew reliably stamps her offspring with her beautiful type, balanced carriage and gentle nature. While this season marks the first foal she will produce for our own stud, she has previously bred foals for other breeding programs, and each has carried her hallmark qualities — elastic movement, good bone, modern sporthorse type and her exceptionally kind, people-focused temperament. Her progeny present as versatile young horses with the athleticism for dressage or jumping and the rideability to suit a wide range of riders.
