Still Waters Sport Horses is a small family-run farm located in  Te Puke, New Zealand, dedicated to breeding elite competitive horses. Our focus is on producing horses with exceptional bloodlines, carefully selected for their proven performance and genetic excellence. We prioritize temperament and trainability, ensuring our horses are not only physically capable but also possess the mindset necessary for success at the highest levels of competition. Through meticulous breeding and hands-on management, we aim to develop sport horses that excel in their discipline and build lasting partnerships with their riders.

We also understand that not everyone is looking for a big warmblood to take through the jumping heights. With that in mind, we have invested in exceptional pony lines and a select few Gypsy Cob lines—ensuring we offer something for a wide range of riders and goals. What we haven’t done is compromise on quality. Every horse we breed or bring into our program is selected for outstanding bloodlines, proven performance, and exceptional temperament. We are equally meticulous in pairing each mare with the right stallion, with decisions guided by rigorous evaluation of conformation to ensure structural correctness, athleticism, and long-term soundness.

Talk From The Stables

It has been an incredibly busy season on the farm. We’ve welcomed 15 beautiful foals of our own, with one more still to arrive, plus one lovely client foal. We’ve also completed 12 inseminations across our own and clients’ mares, with just a couple left to go. Add in the ongoing farm development projects and the kids, and some days we’re not entirely sure what day—or even what month—we’re in!

We are immensely grateful to our amazing veterinary team for their constant support, expertise, and the time they invest in our program. We truly wouldn’t be where we are without them.

A huge congratulations to Jas Flowerday on the arrival of a cracking colt born here last week by Nibali de Jolie out of Finch Farm Corsage. He is absolutely stunning, and we can’t wait to watch him grow and see what his future holds.

As foaling winds down, our focus has shifted to foal handling and preparing our youngsters for “big kid” life. This is one of my favourite parts of the season—getting to learn each foal’s personality and watching them tackle new experiences, usually with impressive confidence. It’s incredibly rewarding.

And then comes the hardest part: writing the sales ads, while secretly wishing I could tuck them all away in the back paddock and keep them forever!
